Preservation Policy

The Journal of Diabetes, Metabolism and Endocrinology is committed to the long-term preservation, accessibility, authenticity, and integrity of all scholarly content published by the journal. The journal recognizes that digital preservation is an essential component of responsible scholarly publishing and is necessary to ensure that published research remains accessible even if the journal's website or publishing platform becomes unavailable.

The journal maintains digital preservation procedures for published articles, including their bibliographic metadata and publication files.

1. Digital Object Identifier (DOI)

Each published article is assigned a Digital Object Identifier (DOI) where applicable.

The DOI provides a persistent and stable identifier for the article and allows readers, researchers, libraries, indexing services, and citation databases to locate the published work over the long term.

The journal aims to ensure that:

  • Each DOI is unique to the published article.
  • DOI metadata is accurately registered.
  • DOI links remain associated with the correct article.
  • Article metadata is updated when legitimate post-publication changes occur.
  • Corrections and retractions remain appropriately linked to the original publication.

2. Preservation of Published Article Files

The journal maintains the final published versions of articles in appropriate digital formats, including:

  • PDF
  • XML, where available
  • Article metadata
  • Bibliographic information
  • Supplementary files, where applicable

The preservation of multiple digital formats supports long-term accessibility, interoperability, indexing, and future migration to new publishing technologies.

3. Secure Digital Repositories

Published content is preserved through secure digital storage and appropriate archival mechanisms.

The journal seeks to maintain:

  • Redundant storage.
  • Regular backups.
  • Access controls.
  • Data integrity checks.
  • Protection against unauthorized alteration or deletion.

4. Archive.com / Internet Archive

Such external archiving provides an additional layer of access and helps preserve publicly available journal webpages and publication records.

Archiving through an external service does not replace the journal's responsibility for maintaining its own publication records.

5. Long-Term Accessibility

The journal intends to preserve published articles for long-term scholarly access.

If the journal's website, hosting provider, publishing platform, or domain becomes temporarily unavailable, preserved content and archival copies should provide alternative mechanisms for recovering or locating the scholarly record where available.

6. Version Control

The journal maintains appropriate distinction between different versions of published content.

Where a published article requires a:

  • Correction
  • Erratum
  • Expression of Concern
  • Retraction

the relevant notice should remain linked to the original article.

The journal does not ordinarily delete the original scholarly record solely because a correction or retraction has been issued. Instead, appropriate notices and version information are used to maintain transparency.

7. Metadata Preservation

In addition to article files, the journal seeks to preserve essential metadata, including:

  • Article title.
  • Author names.
  • Affiliations.
  • ORCID identifiers, where available.
  • Abstract.
  • Keywords.
  • DOI.
  • Publication date.
  • Volume and issue information.
  • Article type.
  • References.

Accurate metadata is essential for citation, discoverability, indexing, and long-term preservation.

8. XML and Structured Content

Where XML is generated, the journal may preserve structured XML versions of published articles alongside PDF files.

Structured XML supports:

  • Digital archiving.
  • Accessibility.
  • Indexing.
  • Future migration between publishing platforms.

9. Backup and Recovery

The journal maintains appropriate backup procedures designed to protect against:

Backups should be maintained separately from primary production systems where technically feasible.

12. Preservation Following Journal Discontinuation

If publication of the journal is discontinued, reasonable efforts will be made to preserve the existing scholarly record.

Previously published articles, DOI metadata, PDFs, XML files where available, and associated publication information should remain accessible through available archival or repository mechanisms.

Discontinuation of future publication does not invalidate or remove previously published scholarly content.

13. Corrections and Retractions in the Archive

Preserved content should reflect the status of the scholarly record as accurately as possible.

When an article is corrected or retracted, the preservation system should retain the original publication while maintaining a clear connection to the relevant correction, retraction, or editorial notice.

This approach supports transparency and prevents confusion regarding the historical publication record.

14. Responsibility for Preservation

The Editorial Office and Publisher are responsible for maintaining appropriate preservation arrangements and reviewing them periodically.

Preservation procedures may be updated as technology, digital standards, repository services, and scholarly communication practices evolve.

15. Commitment to Digital Preservation

The Journal of Diabetes, Metabolism and Endocrinology considers long-term digital preservation an integral part of responsible scholarly publishing.

Through the use of DOIs, PDF and XML publication formats, secure digital storage, backups, and appropriate external archival services such as Internet Archive/Archive.org where applicable, the journal seeks to ensure that its published research remains identifiable, authentic, accessible, and usable for future researchers.

The journal will continue to review and strengthen its preservation infrastructure in accordance with evolving standards for digital preservation, metadata management, persistent identification, and scholarly publishing integrity.
